An Administrative Note about Good Catch Media
Click HERE to Bring Up Full Post

You have probably noticed - or not noticed - the dearth of posts for the last three weeks. Put simply, I have been working a 60-hour shift at the J-O-B for the last three weeks AND taking care of my two boys for a large chunk of the weekends. Before the last three weeks, I was on a near death-march pace which I have now exceeded. So, yeah, I have not been doing a lot of blogging. Something had to give.

I am expecting a number of upgrades in the coming weeks. Among them:

1. a seriatim revision of the layout of the sites of Good Catch Media; and
2. a new laptop machine, possibly (but not necessarily) a lower-end MacBook.

Anyway, thanks for checking in and please pardon the mess.

Logo Design Love

I enjoyed looking Logo Design Love, a blog about (you guessed it) logo design. It has an interesting article about the Obama for President ubiquitous "O" logo and the ones that didn't make the cut by its design firm. (I do not mention this example for any political purpose.)

For curiosity, take a guess about what 10 logos you might find "timeless" and then compare your list to these ten.

Since I have the artistic and design sense of a drunken chimpanzee (and perhaps the gait of one too), I will be examining this site a lot, and have already loaded it into my Google Reader.

Baltimore's Dr. Ben Carson Talks About His Life and His City
Click HERE to Bring Up Full Post

Dr. Carson is a world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon who was born to a mother who could not read, yet facilitated his high school education without revealing her illiteracy. I am warmly acquainted with the mother of one of his earliest patients from almost 20 years ago; Carson saved the life of this infant, who now attends college in central Maryland.

Baltimore as a city gets a bad rap, sometimes by me. But this is a positive blog. So we are staying positive. I don't know that I believe what Dr. Carson believes; he's a devout Seventh Day Adventist Christian. I may not believe in Dr. Carson's god, or even in Dr. Carson's city some of the time. But I believe in Ben Carson.

Welcome to Good Catch

Hello and welcome to Good Catch Blog!

Good Catch Media is the blogging effort of Bruce Godfrey, an attorney and dull human being with no friends. Okay, an attorney.

Good Catch Media's purpose is to be upbeat, positive and life-affirming. If you are like me, you may tend to brood, get down in the dumps, suffer Weltschmerz sometimes. I have found that it takes a strong, specific effort to stay positive and to keep the mental compass pointing north. This blog is that effort.

I am very opinionated on a lot of topics. Most bloggers are. But this is not a place for me to be opinionated and mouthy. If I need to do that, I will do it elsewhere. This is a 100% positive blog - it's all about the upbeat?

What will you find here? Upbeat things. Positive stories. Motivational music and videos. Ideas on how to do things better for yourself. The only things that this blog will take a dig at are itself or its owner - me - and not very often and always in good cheer.

If the idea of being in a positive environment sounds negative to you, this blog may not be for you. But don't give up too soon; keep checking in, and perhaps something will resonate.

Finally, please forgive the mess around the place. Most blogs are "under construction" but blog time competes with Dada time and paycheck time. But you will see gradual improvements here and a build out of resources and links.

Enjoy - and thank you!

Maori Haka meets Tongan Siva Tau

Both Polynesian cultures represented here in these symbolic dances of war (or, perhaps more accurately, of war challenge) employ these or similar dances in a variety of circumstances as a motivational tool. I have often wondered whether I would be more effective as an attorney if, before a day of grueling document review, I took 2 minutes to get physically psyched up through a haka or the like.

Makes you think. In sports and in the military, these sorts of dances or their functional equivalent are commonplace. Is linebacker Ray Lewis' opening dance out into Ravens' Stadium so different from a haka or siva tau, adjusted for cultural details?
